V
Third Quarter 2001 Groundwater Monitoring Report
Moore Petroleum Bulk Plant,5491 F Street,Banta,Califomia
Page 6
• MW-11: TPH motor oil was the only detected constituent and decreased this quarter
within historical range. This plume is probably associated with the railroad.
• MW-12: MTBE was the only detected constituent and decreased this quarter at a
historical low for this location.
• VEW-2: TPHg, TPHd, and TPH kerosene were detected this quarter along
timewith
MTBE, TBA, and Naphthalene. TPH kerosene was detected for
the first56,000 ug/L. MTBE increased this quarter to a historic high for this location.
t The Rhodes domestic well was sampled on July 17, 2001, August 12, 2001, and September 12,
2001. Concentrations were non-detect for all analyzed constituents.
It was Apex's opinion that TPH diesel was reported as motor oil for several wells during last
quarter. Apex sampled for naphthalene this quarter. Naphthalene is an additive in diesel and not
motor oil, therefore by sampling for naphthalene TPHd and motor oil can be differentiated.
Naphthalene was present at MW-7. and VEW-2 and was non detect at all other wells. TPHd was
present in three wells (MW-7, MW-10, and VEW-2). The lack of naphthalene at MW-10
indicates the concentration reported as TPHd is actually TPH kerosene, which is supported in
Figure 6. This quarter, the absence of naphthalene showed that motor oil was not mistaken for
diesel. Apex recommends not sampling for naphthalene or methanol in future sampling events.
Apex recommends continuing quarterly groundwater monitoring to confirm laboratory data. The
next monitoring event is scheduled for January 2002.
Apex is currently applying for an air permit with the SJVUAPCD and has ordered a new vapor
extraction unit and treatment system. Apex anticipates having the system operational by the end
of this year.
