Page 4
April 30, 1996
{ III
Paragraph 3 - Page 3
We are presently conducting an intrinsic bioremediation demonstration to determine the(viability of
relying on naturally occurring bacteria to limit the migration of contamination and ultimately limit
the risk to human health and the environment. Del Monte is currently conducting source removal
through active remediation. In this case, the source of contamination is considered to bei the smear
zone in the immediate vicinity of the former tanks and gasoline piping system. Active remediation
has been underway at the Disco site since February 1995. iI
Del Monte has submitted a Final Remediation Plan/Corrective Action Plan to PHS/EHD; and we are
proceeding according to thatfplan.
Paragraph 4 - Paged 3
We agree that projects should be pre-approved and used that approach at the Disco site. In the case
of the ITB demonstration, the information will help develop a cost effective approach of the Disco
Site that could redirect the expenditure of both Del Monte and State funds to achieve the'(maximum
benefit.
Sincerely,
CH2M HILL
I
P
Grant L.
