Del Monte Foods—Research Center
205 North Wiget Lane
i Walnut Creek, CA 94598-2458
I Telephone: (925) 944-7300 G7
r
FAX: (925) 942-0940 p
rC
4
November 30,2001
Mr. Marty Hartzell N n
Associate Engineering Geologist
California Regional Water Quality Control Board
3443 Routier Road, Suite A
Sacramento, CA 95827-3003
Dear Mr. Hartzell:
Re 'Scheduie for risco Property,'110 Filbert Street Stockton,'
f You requested a schedule by December 3, 2001 to complete the following three (3) tasks at the
Disco site in Stockton:
1, Install an approved on-site extraction well
2. Complete the necessary aquifer testing
3. Submit a Corrective Action Plan
As you are aware from our phone conversation on November 15, 2001, Del Monte intends to
go out for competitive proposals for the activities listed above and the remaining phases of the
remediation work at the Disco site. Those elements would become part of the selected
contractor's work plan. Del Monte wants the remediation contractor to assume full
responsibility for the treatment system, including any extraction wells and their design. At this
point, based on the characteristics of the plume, I think we are all assuming that the proposed
remediation plan will include some aspect of pumping and treating. That could possibly
change if someone has an innovative idea after reviewing the data. However, the schedule
below includes installation and development of an extraction well.
Based on the current site work, our estimated timing for selecting a remediation contractor, and
our thoughts on the time-they will need to conduct the work, the schedule is projected as
follows:
December 14, 2001 Complete the installation of the plume monitoring wells
December 17, 2001 Receive water quality data for initial samples of shallow wells
December 17,2001 Issue a Request for Proposals to qualified contractors for the
remediation phase
January 4, 2002 Obtain initial water quality results of the deep well
c January 31, 2002 Select the successful remediation phase_contractor
<. - April 1, 2002 Install and develop the extraction well
April 15, 2002 Complete the necessary aquifer testing
June 1, 2002 Submit the corrective action plan to PHS for approval
