In attendance at the meeting were you and Steve
Erickson representing Del Monte Foods,Keith Sheets from CH2MHILL, and Dot Lofstrom from
PHS/EHD. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the ongoing groundwater investigation at
110 Filbert Street.
The meeting began with a question from Dot Lofstrom regarding the future remedial plans for
this site. In the final section of a CH2MHILL June 2000 report, a recommendation was made to
pursue interim remediation followed by a final remedial action plan. Keith Sheets and Steve
Erickson explained that subsequent to issuing that report, the decision was made to implement a
final remedial action plan based on the complete investigation data set, and to omit the interim
remediation plan entirely. Dot Lofstrom agreed to this strategy.
The next subject that was discussed was the sampling decision tree, which is referred to several
times in various CH2MHILL documents written regarding this site. Dot Lofstrom agreed to the
sampling strategy as presented in the decision tree, effective immediately. Therefore, the next
quarterly monitoring event, scheduled for July 13,2001, will consist of collecting depth to
groundwater measurements only.
The last subject that was discussed was the investigation scheduled for early August 2001.
Although fieldwork was originally scheduled for July 23, 2001, it has been rescheduled for
August 6,2001, due to scheduling conflicts with the drilling company. There was a general
discussion on the need for additional monitoring wells to be placed on Lafayette Street in the
vicinity of borings CPT-19 and—20. These potential monitoring wells are outside the scope of
the current approved work plan. It was agreed to postpone that decision until after receipt of the
analytical results from the August investigation. Additional discussion ensued over notification
requirements for drilling and investigative activities. Dot Lofstrom explained that public
notification is not required by State of California regulations until a corrective action plan is
formally submitted to the County. Steve Erickson stated his concerns regarding the disruption of
the nearby school during the investigation, and suggested that drilling might need to be completed
during the evenings or weekends. Keith Sheets stated that he would contact the school and find
out if it is a year-round school and if classes will be held during the investigation. Dot Lofstrom
suggested to Mr. Sheets that he might approach the school principle and explain the significance
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
