a a <br /> s <br /> Ail <br /> Ifflia: <br /> L <br /> t.. <br /> 2 BACKGROUND <br /> 2.1 SITE DESCRIPTION <br /> Del Monte Plant 33 is located in Stockton, California, east of downtown and 112 mile <br /> west of Highway 99 (Figure 2-1). The former Disco tanks were located at the south- <br /> western corner of Plant 33, near the intersection of Myrtle Street and Filbert Street <br /> (Figure 2-2). Plant 33 is a fruit canning and packing plant. Three groundwgater wells <br /> are operated at Plant 33 and are shown on Figure 2-2. The gas station had.four <br /> s dispensing islands., Three 10.000-gallon underground tanks supplied #he. dispensing <br /> islan&with gasoline. <br /> =g Del Monte purchased the Disco property in 1972. Del Monte did not use or operate ' <br /> the underground tanks. The three underground tanks were excavated and removed in <br /> 1985. <br /> r 4;L <br /> The site is presently vacant. The tank excavation site is paved, and surrounding areas <br /> consist of soil and asphalt. The Disco station dispensing islands' concrete pads are still <br /> F" present. <br /> ' 2.3 PREVIOUS INVESTIGATIONS <br /> In October 1985, Del .Monte removed the three 10,000-gallon underground tanks <br /> {Exceltech Inc., 1985 . Upon excavation it was discovered that.the tanks were filled <br /> r. <br /> with water. A water sample was ta--ken from each tank and analyzed...-Volatile hydro <br /> - <br /> ___'5 <br /> concentrations.were less..than 5.6 mg/1 (the predominant constituent was <br /> 2-1 <br /> SF031604M 8006.51 <br />
