KLEINFELDER
4.3.2 MONITORING SCHEDULE
The pilot test system will be monitored hourly to track the performance of the technology.
Monitoring protocol will serve the following objectives:
• determine the volume of soil gas being removed
• determine location/dynamics of system influence
• evaluate radius of influence of the system
• determined the flow/pressure potential of the vent and sparge well
The following table summarizes the monitoring schedule for the pilot test system.
TABLE 4-1
SVE/AS MONITORING SCHEDULE
S' Com onent Pararneter`: Method Fre uenc
Vent Well Flow Thermal Anemometer Hourly
Vacuum Fixed Vacuum Gauge Hourly
Monitoring Wells
(MW-DIS-1,AS/SVE-1,AS/SVE-2,NP-1, Pressure Magnahelic Gauge Hourly
NP-2,and MW-DIS-9) Flow Micro-rotometer
Sparge Wells Flaw Anemometer Hourly
Pressure Pressure Gauge Hourl
The radius of influence of the sparge well will also be evaluated by performing a bubble flux test
in MW-DIS-1. The test will involve lowering a specially designed conduit into the monitoring
well while the air sparge well is operating. The conduit is equipped with a conical capture head
to measure the depth of the initial intersection of airflow through the well screen from the sparge
well. The conduit is connected to 1/4-inch tubing and a rotameter to monitor the flow passing
through the capture head. The apparatus is lowered until the initial flux point is determined; the
depth is then recorded. The interception depth is then compared to the lateral and vertical
distance from the sparge well and a parabola is drawn through the points to approximate the air
path of the sparge well. This method was developed based on our experience of other similar air
I sparging projects, and has proven accurate and reliable.
{
1228012002R476 Page 16 of 26
Copyright 2002 Kleinfelder,Inc.
