k4 KLEINFELDER
6, CLIENT RESPONSIBILITIES AND ASSUMPTIONS
i
This scope of work is based on the following assumptions and responsibilities:
• Del Monte Foods, Inc. will assist Kleinfelder in obtaining access to the site and owner
i
authorization for the proposed sampling.
• Adequate work space and access will be provided. Kleinfelder will attempt to advance
soil borings and collect samples at the proposed locations. If the drilling equipment
cannot be positioned, alternative drilling locations or sampling methods should be
investigated.
i
• The borings are to be drilled with a truck mounted drill rig equipped with hollow stem
augers, or sampled using a hand auger and slide hammer. If difficult drilling conditions
are encountered, alternative sampling methods may be necessary. Soil.generated during
the sampling will be used to backfill the hand auger borings.
• Soil and water generated during the drilling and sampling will be the responsibility of the
client. Soil cuttings and steam cleaning water will be left on site. Sampling and analysis
of the contained soil and water may be necessary prior to disposal. Disposal or
remediation options for the soil and water can be assessed once analytical results have
been received. Kleinfelder is prepared to assist the client and to remediate or dispose of
stockpiled soil and water, if requested.
• This proposal is based on the presumption that the client will clearly mark utilities and
will provide any and all available survey maps or other data to determine the location of
existing structures, underground utilities and services. Del Monte Foods, Inc. should be
aware that penetrating the site's surface is inherently risky. It is impossible to determine
with certainty the precise location of all structures, which may be buried in the ground.
Kleinfedler's fee is not adequate to compensate for both the performance of the services
and the assumption of risk of damage to such structures. Disruption of utilities or damage
to underground structures will be the responsibility of Del Monte Foods, Inc. Services
rendered by Kleinfelder to repair them will be billed at cost. Underground Service Alert
(USA) at 1-800-642-2444 provides a partial location service free of charge for major
` utility lines. It is important that Del Monte Foods, Inc. understand that subsurface buried
under private property will not be marked by the public utility companies contacted by
f USA. Kleinfelder can make contact with USA for a site visit, if requested.
I
12280/2002R476 Page 24 of 26
Copyright 2002 Kleinfelder,Inc. May 17,2002
