Box 9004
Walnut Creek, CA 94598
Subject: Pilot Test Letter Report-Del Monte Disco Site
( 110 Filbert Street
Stockton, California
Dear Ms. Lynch:
Kleinfelder has completed pilot testing of air sparging and soil vapor extraction technology at the
Del Monte Disco Site. The pilot test utilized deep sparging wells with micro diffusers as
discussed in our meeting with Mike Infurna and Marty Hartzell on April 17, 2002 and
subsequently outlined in a Pilot Test Workplan dated May 17, 2002. As recommended by Mike
Infurtia in his comments on the Pilot Test Workplan, we did not test integration of ozone
technology as part of this pilot test.
The pilot test proved a success. Bubble flux testing in MW-1 indicated a sparge well radius of
j influence of approximately 64 feet in the subsurface. Furthermore, dissolved oxygen
concentrations at this distance increased by over 30% after four hours of air sparging.
Based on these and other finding from the pilot test, Kleinfelder is prepared to proceed with
evaluating the technology in a subsequent Corrective Action Plan. The letter report attached
outlines the details of the pilot testing procedures, findings and analysis for your review. Please
feel free to contact Dave Jenkins at(916) 366-1701 if you have any questions or concerns.
i Since y, ppFSS/p
DMAD V.
Dave Je ci E Kent Zenobi DEE
r,
' c JENNNS r '
Project Engineer wst9 m Chief Environmental Engineer
V7C5C0 envy
DVJ:KEZ:sev
cc: Mr. Michael Infurna F r.
