Mr. Michael Collins
Page 2
August 6, 1.992
SFO31604.P3
As reported in the RI/FS, benzene was found to exceed the hazardous waste Toxicity
Characteristic Leaching Procedure (TCLP) level of 500 Agll in Monitoring Wells MW-
DIS-1 and -2. Benzene levels exceed the California MCL of 1 µg/l in Monitoring Wells
MW-DIS-1, -2, -3, and -71) in the June and September 1991 sampling events.
A schedule of groundwater monitoring and remedial activities planned at Del Monte Plant
33 was submitted to Mr. Steven Schneider of San Joaquin County Public Health Services
on May 14, 1992. Del Monte is currently proceeding with the activities outlined in this
letter.
GROUNDWATER MONITORING/QUALITY
Eight groundwater monitoring wells were sampled on June 30, 1992 as part of the
quarterly groundwater quality monitoring program. The groundwater samples were
analyzed for total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) as gasoline; benzene, toluene,
ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX) (EPA method 8015/8020); and lead (Method AA).
Locations of the Plant 33 monitoring wells are shown on Figure 1. Results of the June 30,
1992 sampling event and results from previous sampling events are summarized on Table
L The laboratory report from the June 30, 1992 sampling event is also attached.
FUTURE ACTIVITIES AND SCHEDULE
Future monitoring and remedial activities planned for Plant 33 and the scheduled dates for
each activity are shown on Table 2.
