Closure Objectives
Complete and final closure of the site is not expected for several years. The primary cleanup
goal is to reduce groundwater contamination to below 500 pg/L-of benixene. The secondary
cleanup goal is to further reduce benzene to below the drinking water MCL of 1.0 gg/L. The
k MCL is not likely to be reached for several decades.
As asymptotic benzene concentrations between 500 and 1.0 gg/L are approached in MW-
i
DIS-2,the sampling frequency may be reduced from quarterly to annual.
When benzene concentrations have stabilized or are no longer detectable in the groundwater,
and continued monitoring is no longer fruitful, Del Monte will request a closure designation
from the CVRWQCB.
1
r
f
10030984.DOC 5-3
