  4
p
City of Stockton
February 6, 1997 A68108.OIB
Page A-5
A-6 Standard Operating Procedures for Performing Head Space°Analysis: Head space
analysis may be performed using a photoionization detector (PID) or a drager tube. A soil
_ sample is placed in a sealed glass container or plastic bag, agitatedI and placed in a warm
atmosphere. After approximately 15 minutes, which is generally sufficient for some of the
t
volatiles to escape from the soil, the PID probe or tip of the drager tube is inserted into the
container and the gas is sampled. The highest concentration of organic vapors recorded by
the PID or the drager tube reading will be recorded.
A-7 Standard Operating Procedures for Decontamination Rinsate, Monitoring Well
Purge Water, and Soil Cuttings Disposal: The soil cuttings generated by drilling operations
are retained on site, and either covered by plastic sheeting or containerized in United States
Department of Transportation (DOT)-approved drums. The drilling equipment
decontamination rinsate is also stored in drums. Drums containing soil and rinsate are
sealed and temporarily stored on site at a location remote to the public. Each drum is
labelled to identify its contents. Disposal of these wastes will be the responsibility of the
client. The client will be informed that the wastes must be disposed in accordance with
applicable Federal, State, and local regulations. p f
il, Fh 1
k
7 n
k I
i
r'I
{1 t
1y
i4
