The purpose of the soil assessment was to evaluate the
recognized environmental conditions identified in the 1996 environmental investigation
conducted by Kleinfelder Inc. for the purpose of providing sufficient information
regarding the nature and extent of contamination to assist in making informed business
decisions about the property.
The scope of work for this project is outlined in the San Joaquin County Environmental
Health Department (EHD) approved Work Plan for Soil Investigation Beneath Former
UST's prepared by Ground Zero Inc. on 25 August 2008.
1.1 SITE DESCRIPTION
The subject property consists of one parcel located at 1303 First Street, Escalon, San
Joaquin County, California. The site is located within a rural residential and agricultural
setting. The site is bounded by McHenry Ave. to the west, a vacant lot to the cast, retail
dive shop to the south, and First Street to the north.
1.2 SITE HISTORY
The subject property was historically occupied by a gas station used for the retail of
petroleum fuel. On 9 September 1986, under San Joaquin County EHD permit seven
underground storage tanks used to store petroleum hydrocarbon fuels were removed from
the property. Analytical data from the soil samples collected during tank removal activities
were not submitted to EHD in an approved format. See Figure 2 for the approximate
location of the former USTs.
In 1996 two borings (B-22 and B-24) were drill for the purpose of collecting soil samples
as part of an environmental investigation conducted by the City of Escalon along the
McHenry Ave / Hwy 120 corridor in preparation for a roadway realignment project. Soil
samples collected from boring location B-24 indicated the presence of elevated petroleum
hydrocarbons on site.See Figure 2 for a site map with boring locations.
1222(2009 HANOVER ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES,INC. 1
Soil Assessment Report
McHenry Ave Project
1303 First Street,Escalon
