Mr. Harlin Knoll
San Joaquin County
November 6, 1995
Page 3
Disposal
Based on results of Phase II testing, soil impacted by TPH only is anticipated to be
disposed of at Altamont Landfill, a Class II landfill in Altamont, California. Based on
results of Phase II testing, soil impacted by TPH, lead, cadmium, and zinc from Area
No. 1 in Linden, is anticipated to be disposed of at U.S. Ecology, a Class I landfill in
Beatty, Nevada. Acceptance at these facilities will be based on results of stockpiled
soil analysis. All soils will be transported and disposed of under appropriate waste
manifests.
Backfilling
f
When analytical results of confirmatory samples indicate that less than 100 ppm TPH
remains in excavated areas, SJCEHD will be notified and authorization for backfilling
will be requested. When authorization is received, excavations will be backfilled with
drill cuttings from the Phase II activities at both sites. Analytical results from Phase
II soil sampling p g indicate that drill cuttings at both sites contain non-detectable to low
concentrations of TPH. In a verbal discussion with you on September 26, 1995, you tt
indicated that the drill cuttings could be used as backfill. This was documented in the
HSI letter to you dated September 28, 1995.
I
If additional backfill material is needed, clean material will be imported and placed in
the excavations. Backfill material will be placed in the excavations in six- to eight-inch
lifts and compacted to 95% and the surface restored to original condition or better. I
Reporting
A brief report describing field activities, analytical results, and containing waste
manifests and disposal acceptance documentation will be prepared and submitted to
FMC and SJCEHD.
a
NSI HYDRO-SEARCH;i IC.
