Flood Road
Linden, California
' PGE-1035.400
' Dear Mr. Girardi:
Drilling of six soil borings and subsequent soil sampling was completed on October 11, 2007 under
San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department pemut No. 0052040 at the Pacific Gas and
Electric Company (PG&E) Bellota Substation (Site) located at 24400 E. Flood Road, Linden,
California (Figure 4-1).
' The six soil borings were drilled by Precision Sampling of Richmond, California using a Geoprobe
direct-push drill rig equipped with 2-inch outside diameter stainless steel rods. The total depth of
the soil borings ranged from 2.5 feet to 10 feet below ground surface (bgs). A revised site plan is
' attached which shows the drilled location of these soil borings (Figure 4-2).
Drilling and Soil Sampling Procedures
' The top five feet of each soil boring was hand augered to ensure utility clearance. The soil was
continuously observed as it was removed from the hand auger bucket for soil lithology and evidence
' of visual contamination (stain and odor). Soil deeper then five feet bgs was continuously cored with
the direct-push drill rig operated by Precision Sampling using a 5-foot long, 2-inch diameter solid
core barrel sampler lined with a five-foot by 1.75-inch acetate macro core liner. Once the sampler
' was driven to the desired depth, it was brought to the surface and the acetate core liner containing
the soil core was extracted from the sampler. The core section was laid out on a table and cut open
lengthwise. The core was inspected for soil lithology and evidence of visual contamination. The soil
' lithology and any evidence of visual contamination observed from the surface to the boring's total
depth was recorded on boring log forms, which are included as Appendix A.
1
