------------
LTCv 1
r1 A S S 0 C I A T E S I N C
E Summary Report of
Pumping Test
Smiths Canal Pump Plant
2144 Fontana Avenue
Stockton, California
ATC Project No. 54.62574.0002
= lA INTRODUCTION
ATC Associates Inc. has prepared this letter report on behalf of the Ci of Stockton to r
P P p City ff
summarize the pumping test performed at 2144 Fontana Avenue in Stockton, California (Figure f
1). The purpose of the pumping test was to evaluate groundwater extraction and treatment as a E
remedial option. This work was performed at the request of San Joaquin County Public Health
Services, Environmental Health Division (PHS/EHD). The findings of the pumping test are
summarized in the following report.
1.1 Site Location
The site is located at the south end of Fontana Avenue adjacent to Smiths Canal in Stockton,
California, as shown on Figure 1. The location is generally a residential area. The site is currently
occupied by Smiths Canal Pumping Plant.
1.2 Site Background and Previous Work
`> An estimated 1,100 gallons of diesel fuel was reportedly leaked from the above referenced 5,000-gallon
fiberglass tank as a result of an inadvertent puncture. The tank was repaired and returned to active
service.
In May 1988, Ensco Environmental performed a limited investigation, advancing a single soil
boring 1 beneath the northern fill side of the tank to a maximum depth of a roximatel 17
r g (B- ) (fill) P PP Y
feet below grade. A soil sample collected from this boring at 17-17.5 feet below ground surface
(bgs) recorded 130 parts per million (ppm) total petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel (TPHd).
Results of soil sample analyses are summarized in Table 1. As a result of this initial investigation, E
PHS/EHD required further assessment of the extent of contamination at the subject site.
A subsurface investigation was conducted on October 17 and 18, 1989 by WaterWork Corp. Six soil
borings (SB-1, SB-2, MW-1, MW-2, MW-3, and MW4) were drilled at the subject site to depths
ranging from 16 to 36 feet bgs. Four of these borings were completed as two-inch diameter
t;
wAfi2574.02Vgm t\RPT-pump t Ldw 1
i
f
