1992 First Quarter Report nA
Smith's Canal Pump Plant
May 5, 1992
Page 2
Laboratory Analysis
Collected samples were analyzed for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes (BTEX) and total
petroleum hydrocarbons as diesel(TPHD)by state-certified RESNA Environmental Laboratories.
Water samples were also analyzed for total coliform and fecal coliform bacteria at the City of
Stockton's Municipal Utilities Department Laboratory. Analytical results are summarized in
Table 2. Laboratory data sheets and chain-of-custody documentation are included in Attachment
2.
Laboratory results indicate dissolved hydrocarbon constituents are not present at or above
laboratory detection limits in wells MW I, MW2, and MW3, suggesting that the floating product
is limited to a small area near the former tank. Coliform bacteria (total coliform) was detected
in the irrigation well at 41 MPN/100 ml (most probable number of bacteria per one hundred
milliliters of sample). The irrigation well is no longer being used by the City of Stockton. To
prevent potential vertical migration of contaminants associated with the fermer diesel tank, the
site irrigation well should be destroyed.
RESNA will continue the quarterly monitoring program at the site. Any floating product
-= 3 measured in monitoring wells will be bailed off and contained in DOT approved drums pending
appropriate disposal. The next sampling event will be performed in June, 1992, and the
subsequent report submitted in July, 1992.
If you have any questions or comments, please contact John P. Lane at our Escalon office
(209/838-3507).
Respectfully,
RESNA Industries
Tom J. Lutterman
Staff Geologist
/L" //), 7
Gregory P.
