25 April 2000
AGE-NC Project No. 95-0144
Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Site Activities (National Institute for Occupational Safety
and Health Administration, U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, 1985),
is currently on-file with the PHS-EHD.Prior to mobilization, the area of excavation will be clearly
marked and an utility clearance obtained through Underground Service Alert.
3.2. SOIL SAMPLE COLLECTION
Four soil probe borings will be advanced using direct push technology. The soil borings will be
advanced in the area northwest of MW-12 as outlined by T&R. Proposed probe boring locations are
illustrated in Figure 2.
Soil samples will be collected at depths of 6, 10 and 15 feet below surface grade (bsg). Field
procedures for advancement of borings and collection of soil samples are presented in Section 4.2.
3.3. GRAB WATER SAMPLE COLLECTION
A grab water sample will be collected from one boring (15B-9) using a Geoprobe water sampling
assembly. Samples will be collected into 40-m1 volatile organic analysis (VOA)vials, 1-liter amber
bottles and plastic bottles as appropriate for the required analyses. Ground water sample collection
procedures are presented in Section 4.3.
3.4. LABORATORY ANALYSES
Each of the soil samples and the grab water sample collected will be submitted for laboratory
analysis. The samples will be analyzed by Curtis&Tompkins,Ltd.,a State of California Department
of Health Services (DHS)-certified laboratory for the following constituents:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline, diesel and motor oil (TPH-g, TPH-d
and TPH-mo) by EPA Method 8015 Modified;
• Volatile aromatic compounds(benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes: BTEX), by
EPA Method 8020; and
• Total lead by EPA Method 6010.
Soil and grab water samples collected from boring 15B-9 will also be analyzed for:
• Volatile organic compounds by EPA Method 8260.
Advanced GwEnvironmental,Inc.
