(WKA) . The report documented the soil vapor
extraction (SVE) feasibility test on February 2, 2000, air sparging (AS) feasibilitytest on
March 10, 2000, and the installation of two borings (HP-1 and HP-2) and a monitoring well
(MW- 8) on September 12 , 2000.
PHS/EHD agrees with the statement in the report that the northeast extent of the
contamination in groundwater appears to be delineated. PHS/EHD also agrees that SVE is
physically feasible at the site. Submit a AS/SVE system design work plan to PHS/EHD
that would include 1) additional SVE wells and/or AS wells as required based on the radius
of influence and pore volume exchange calculations, 2) volume of the soil to be treated, 3)
description of all instruments to be utilized in the operation of the SVE system, 4) design
plan of the system and locations of all instrumentation, and 5) maximum flow rate and the
type of blower to be used. Submit the work plan by June 15, 2001.
In a telephone conversation on May 2, 2001, WKA stated that although the analytical results
of the soil gas samples taken from the SVE wells during the SVE feasibility test and the
groundwater samples taken from the AS wells during the AS pilot test were very low in
volatile hydrocarbon constituents, a pump and treat groundwater extraction system is not
warranted at this time since oxygenates are not a concern at this site.
If you have anyquestions, please contact Jeffrey Wong at (209) 468-0335 .
Donna Heran, RENS, Director
Environnigntal Health Division
C (i .
