e 404 WEST FREMONT STREET
WKA No. 1628. 09
71
I August 31 , 2001
Page 8
(TEFL), positive displacement air sparging blower used to inject pressurized atmospheric air in the
groundwater. The air sparging system will be complete with instrumentation for measuring the
following:
I
• air flow rate
•
air pressure
• temperature
• dissolved oxygen in groundwater
• pressure differential
The air sparging system will be equipped with PVC piping, fittings, dilution valves, an in-line 1
micron filter, a coalescing oil filter, pressure relief valve and wellhead connections. The
sparging unit is also equipped with a chamber/absorption carbon steel discharge silencer,
adjustable motor slide base, auto fault detection, auto power loss restart and automatic high
_J temperature and pressure shutdown.
z_,
Air Sparging Points
Existing air sparging points AS 1 through AS3 will be used to deliver pressurized ambient
J atmospheric air into the groundwater. Thirteen additional air sparging points will be installed
within the petroleum hydrocarbon plume as part of the remediation process.
Thirteen soil borings will be drilled to depths of 30 feet below surface grade using a truck-mounted
drill rig equipped with hollow-stem augers. The borings will be converted into air sparging points
at the locations shown on Plate 3 . Approximately 260 lineal feet of Schedule 40 Polyvinyl
f I Chloride (PVC) piping will be installed underground then connected to the air sparging unit via
trenches.
The air sparging points will be constructed using one-inch diameter, flush jointed, Schedule 40
F PVC casing; 0.014nch slotted casing will be used for the screened 'interval (Plate 4). The screened
interval will extend from approximately 25 feet bsg to 30 feet bsg. Number 2/12 sand will be
i` placed as a filter pack in the well annulus. The filter pack will extend from the bottom of the
t
wnu—n_e • i<uo co-
L I..II `v 1ASSOCIAI ES IM(w,
