444 WEST FREMONT STREET
WKA No 1628 44
February 2, 1996
Page 2
disposable bailer Water from the disposable bailer was decanted into appropriate sample
containers provided by the laboratory
The samples were immediately placed in an ice-chest with ice and submitted under chain-of-
custody to a California-certified laboratory for analysis of Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons (TPH)
as gasoline using EPA test method 8415 modified, and Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene and Total
Xylenes (BTEX) using EPA test method 642
The submersible pump was cleaned with a solution of Liqui-nox and water prior to purging each
well to minimae the potential for cross-contamination All water removed during sampling and
purging operations was placed in sealed and labeled 55-gallon drums and stored on site
Analysis of water samples MW2, SMW2, MW3 and MW6 revealed no detectable concentrations
of TPH or BTEX The one exception for the above four wells was a trace concentration of
xylene reported in well MW6
Concentrations of petroleum hydrocarbons were detected in the water samples from wells MW1,
MW1, MW4 and MWS A summary of analytical results for ground water samples obtained
from the six on-site monitoring wells and one off-site monitoring well are included as Table 1
Complete analytical reports and chain-of-custody documentation are included in the appendix
Construction of a sixth site monitoring well was attempted along West Fremont Street on
November 17, 1995 The installation was delayed when unmarked utilities were struck by the
drill rig Construction of this well will commence as soon as issues with the utility company are
resolved In the interim, however, a monitoring well was constructed slightly east of the
northeast corner of Van Buren and West Fremont Streets by Advanced GeoEnvironmental while
working on the adjacent Chase Chevrolet site This well may prove to be directly down-gradient
- = of the former tank pit, however, the apparent groundwater ridge depicted beneath the site on =
January 2, 1996, may have also pushed contamination northerly or northeasterly of the former
tank pit This possibility may help explain the elevated hydrocarbon contamination observed in
monitoring wells MW4 and MW5
`O%
WALLACE KUHL
S ASSOCIATES INC.
