! • <br /> APPENDIX <br /> FIELD PROCEDURES <br /> Page 1 <br /> FIELD PROCEDURES <br /> Soil Borin2s/Monftoring Wells <br /> Prior to drilling, Underground Services Alert will be contacted and permits obtained from the <br /> San Joaquin Environmental Health Division The two borings will then be drilled and sampled to <br /> a depth of approximately 25 feet using a drill-rig equipped with hollow-stem augers The sods <br /> encountered in each boring will be logged by a field geologist using the Unified Soils <br /> Classification System Soil samples will be collected within the borings at five-foot maximum <br /> intervals using a modified California sampler equipped with clean, two-inch diameter, six-inch <br /> long brass tubes The samples will be screened in the field with an organic vapor analyzer <br /> (OVA) to estimate the extent of hydrocarbon contamination Samples tubes will be sealed with <br /> polytetrafluoroethylene (PZ FE)-coated sheets, plastic caps and duct tape to reduce volatile <br /> hydrocarbon loss, preserved on ice and submitted with chain-of-custody documentation to a <br /> California-certified laboratory Augers, drilling rods and samplers will be steam cleaned in the <br /> field between each boring Rinsate from the steam cleaning procedure will be contained and <br /> stored on site in sealed and labeled 55-gallon drums Soil generated during drilling activities will <br /> be stored at the subject site in sealed and labeled 55-gallon drums <br /> Soil samples will be selected from each boring and analyzed for Total Petroleum Hydrocarbons <br /> (TPH) as gasoline using Modified EPA method 8015, and for Benzene, Toluene, Ethylbenzene, <br /> and Total Xylenes (BTEX) using EPA method 8020/Purge-and-Trap <br /> The borings will be converted to monitoring wells using four-inch diameter, flush jointed, <br /> Schedule 40 PVC casing, 0 02-inch slotted casing will be used for the screened interval Number <br /> 3 Monterey sand will be placed in the well annulus as a filter pack The filter pack will extend <br /> from the bottom of the screened interval to approximately one foot above the top of the screened <br /> interval A two-foot thick bentonite seal will be placed in the well annulus above the filter pack <br /> A grout seal consisting of a Portland Cement and bentonite slurry will be place into the well <br /> `W <br /> WALLACE-KUHL <br /> h ,' 6 ASSOCIATES INC <br />
