reconfiguration of the transformers.
Due to the cost of the PG&E contract, AGE reviewed the site data and determined that a soil-
vapor extraction system using a carbon-based remediation system would be more economically
feasible for mitigating impacted soil and groundwater at the site. The current transformers and
configuration of transformers at the site will be capable of handling the electrical load required to
operate a carbon-based SVE unit in tandem with an in-situ air sparge system; this will greatly
reduce the costs of the electrical service provide by PG&E . Additionally, the costs per month of
operating a carbon based system will be far less than operational costs of an oxidizer. Due to the
concentrations of contaminants at the site, multiple carbon change-outs may be necessary during
the first 3-6 months of operation. However, the costs of replacing carbon are still far less than the
cost of installing and operating an oxidizer SVE system at the site .
Specifications of a carbon based SVE system will be similar to the oxidizer originally proposed for
the site, with the exception of the destruction process. The carbon based system will utilize a
vacuum blower (positive displacement) capable of 250 cubic feet per minute , a condensation
separator (Knockout Vessel) , and three 1 , 000-pound vapor carbon vessels for contaminant
destruction .
With your approval, I would like to continue the electrical service installation and remediation
installation at the site using a carbon based SVE system to operate concurrently with an in-situ
air sparge system.
Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or comments you have.
Thanks,
Brian W.
