N
04 February 2000
AGE-NC Project No. 95-0167
33 , MONITORING WELL INSTALLATION
3 .3 . 1 . Soil Sampling Collection and Analysis
Two soil borings will be advanced utilizing a truck mounted, hollow stem drill rig and 8 .25-inch
hollow-stem augers (conventional auger drilling) as pilot borings for collection of soil samples and
the installation of ground water monitoring wells. The purpose of the monitoring wells are to :
• Assess the lateral petroleum hydrocarbon impacts to ground water off site.
As shown on Figure 2 ground water monitoring wells are proposed to be located approximately
within side walk of adjacent street. Upon installation, each monitoring well will be given a
designation.
Soil samples will be collected from each monitoring well pilot boring at five-foot intervals from five-
feet bsg to the total depth of the boring. Field procedures for advancement of soil borings and
collection of soil samples are presented in Section 4.2. 1 . A total of up to 6 soil samples, a minimum
of three samples from each soil boring, will be submitted for laboratory analysis. Selected soil
i
samples will be analyzed by DHS-certified laboratory for the analytes noted in section 3 .2 . above.
Laboratory reports for soil analyses, testing methods, laboratory quality assurance/quality control
(QA/QC) reports, and sample chain of custody documentation will be presented in a report with
c findings and recommendations.
3 . 3 .2, Monitoring Well Installation and Development
Initially AGE proposes to install single screened ground water monitoring wells. These wells will
i consist of a 15-foot screen section with five feet of screen extending above the current water table.
'I Following well installation, the well will be developed in order to maximize water flow into the well
and minimize the amount of fine-grained sediment drawn into the well during pumping and
c sampling. Procedures for well installation and development are presented in Section 4.2.2.
3 .3 .3 . Ground Water Sampling Collection and Analysis
Following the installation of the monitoring wells, ground water monitoring and sampling activities
will be conducted for all the monitoring wells on a quarterly basis for a minimum of one year (four
sampling events). Additionally, monitoring activities will include recording depth to ground water
measurements and collection of ground water samples. Ground water sample collection procedures
are described in Section 4.3 . Ground water samples will be analyzed by a DHS-certified laboratory
