Fremont Street,
Stockton.
It was mentioned in the June 27 , 1996 quarterly report that a
fourth monitoring well was placed in May; details of that work
are described below.
PLACEMENT OF MONITORING WELL ##4 :
On May 2, 1996 . Charles Fry, RG from Wm. J. Hunter & Associates,
arrived on location at 0730 hours to make sure site was clear &
to notify nearby property owners of the work. V & W Drilling,
• Inc . auger rig and crew arrived at 0800 ; due to overhead
telephone lines, the location previously selected would put the
rig mast too close for safety. After further review of possible
alternate locations, it was decided to cancel the job and use a
rig capable of working with restricted overhead clearance .
On May 7, 1996, Spectrum Exploration mobilized a short mast auger
rig equipped with 5 foot lengths of 10 1/411 OD hollow stem
augers . Work began at 0900 hours under the direction of Charles
Fry, RG. Augers were advanced to 5 ' at which point a California
Modified split spoon sample barrel was lowered into the hole and
pushed to 616" . The sample chamber was retrieved, placed on a
clean surface, and carefully opened by the geologist . Recovery
consisted of 18" of dark brown slightly silty clay; refer to
PLATE I for complete details . One of the metal sleeves was
promptly sealed with teflon tape & plastic end caps, and the ends
were secured with duct tape . The preserved tube was labeled and
placed on ice pending transfer to the laboratory .
The augers were advanced to 8 ' bgl and a weighted tape was
lowered into the hole to check for water entry. No entry was
observed, and the augers were advanced to 1.0 ' bgl . A clean sample
chamber was lowered into the augers and driven from 10 ' to 111611 .
The barrel was handled as noted above; recovery consisted of 12"
of reddish brown silty clay. Additional details are given on
PLATE I . One metal sleeve was sealed and preserved according to
WJH field protocol .
1
