taminating all equipment, the split-spoon sampler was pushed and
driven to 12 ' bgl, the chamber opened, and driven to 1316" .
Recovery consisted of 15" of gray to dark gray silty, sandy clay,
damp but not wet . A very faint odor of "old gas" was noted, but
no visible staining was evident . The bottom sleeve was promptly
sealed and preserved as described above . PLATE Vj gives more
details .
The hydropunch tool was attached to clean pipe and pushed to 15 '
bgl . The tool was opened, and a bailer run inside the pipe
revealed good water entry. Three (3) VOA' s were filled with
muddy water; a very faint petroleum odor was noted, but no free
product or rainbow was evident . The VOA' s were labeled &
preserved as noted above .
The hole was covered, and all equipment decontaminated. The
truck was then spotted on the location marked for D-3 ; (see PLATE
III . ) A soil sample was taken from 12 ' -13 ' 6" as described above;
recovery was 15" of brown to tan plastic clay, slightly damp,
with a mottled apprearance due to color changes . No odor was
noted, and the bottom sleeve was sealed and preserved for
analysis . PLATE Vk gives more details .
The hydropunch tool was pushed to 15 ' bgl and opened. Several
runs with a small bailer revealed that there was no fluid entry.
The tool was retreived & decontaminated. It was driven to 18 '
bgl & opened. Several runs with the bailer again showed no fluid
entry. The same procedure was repeated, with the tool driven to
20 ' bgl . Again, there was no fluid entry. After cleaning
equipment, the tool was driven to 24 ' bgl , opened, and allowed to
set for 30 minutes . The bailer was run and recovered sufficient
muddy water to fill 3 VOA' s . No odor or evidence of free product
or sheen was noted, and the VOA' s were promptly sealed, labeled
and placed on ice. The work was completed at 1 :30 PM; the County
representative supervised the grouting of the three holes .
The preserved soil & water samples were delivered under chain of
custody to FGL Environmental laboratory by the geologist, Mr .
Hunter. Instructions were given to test for BTEX (EPA 8020, ) &
TPHg (EPA 8015M, )
REVIEW OF RESULTS OF ABOVE WORK:
The results of analyses of soil & water samples taken 11./27 &
11/28/1995 from probe holes A-1 through C-2 are summarized on
TABLE III -- laboratory sheets and custody chains are attached as
EXHIBIT E . They show that the soil sample from location A-4
revealed detectable amounts of BTEX & TPHg; B-3 showed minor
8
