equipment suitable for obtaining a soil sample for field <br /> screening and preserving for analysis . A portion of the material <br /> will be screened with a properly field calibrated PID meter or <br /> similar instrument . Another portion of the soil will be placed <br /> in a suitable container, thoroughly sealed, and preserved in a <br /> sealed ice chest for transport to a State certified laboratory <br /> for analysis . <br /> 2 . The test point will be advanced to as close to the capillary <br /> fringe as possible, and another soil sample obtained for <br /> screening and preservation as described in paragraph 1 above. <br /> 3 . A hydropunch or other suitable tool will be driven into the <br /> water table in order to obtain a discrete water sample for <br /> screening and analysis . <br /> 4 . If field observation & sample screening does not indicate any <br /> evidence of soil and/or groundwater contamination, each test <br /> point will be thoroughly grouted with cement and operations <br /> suspended pending results of laboratory analysis . <br /> 5 . The preserved soil & water samples will be transported under <br /> chain of custody to a State certified laboratory with av<1re- <br /> instructions to analyze for BTEX, (EPA 8020/602, ) & TPHG, (EPA <br /> 8015M, ) using current San Joaquin County & CRWQB detection <br /> limits . <br /> If the laboratory results show all samples to be below detection <br /> limits, it would appear that further investigative work is not <br /> needed, and proposals for soil and groundwater remediation <br /> programs can be solicited. <br /> If field screening indicates the presence of contamination, <br /> additional test points will be placed in the approximate <br /> locations indicated by hexagon-shaped spots marked B . The first <br /> set of holes will be properly sealed to prevent the possibility <br /> Of cross-contamination. The same field procedure will be used <br /> for the second set of test points as discussed above . <br /> Depending upon the results of the second phase, either (1) <br /> additional test points will be placed; (2) an additional <br /> monitoring well will be placed in a downgradient position, or (3) <br /> remediation programs will be designed to remove both soil and <br /> groundwater contamination& obtain site closure . <br /> When we have received approval to proceed, we will solicit bids <br /> from qualified contractors, prepare necessary cost estimates, <br /> etc . , and submit the necessary documents to the State Cleanup <br /> 4 <br />
