STATE OF CALIFORNIA-BUSINESS,TRANSPORTATION AND HOUSING AGENCY Pete Wilson,GOVERNOR
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
P.O. BOX 2048 (1976 E. CHARTER WAY)
STOCKTON, CA 95201
948-3954 ATSS 423-3954
June 22, 1993
10-SJ-12-11 .27
Alegre Trucking
Traffic Study
Robert Fowler
Frank C. Alegre Trucking, Inc.
802 No. Cluff Avenue
Lodi, CA 95240
Dear Mr. Fowler:
This letter is written in response to your request for Caltrans comments
regarding the Recommended Encroachment onto SR12 from the Korve Engineering
Traffic Study. As shown in Figure 8 of the Study, all conceptual elements of the
encroachment are acceptable to Caltrans. The necessary left turn pocket, acceleration
and deceleration lanes are shown on this drawing (enclosed).
As an option to this plan, you may consider construction of a 12-foot wide
shoulder along the north side of SR12 instead of the 12-foot wide west bound
acceleration lane. This wider than normal shoulder will allow west bound truck
acceleration to occur on the shoulder instead of the separate lane in the center of the
roadway. However, keep in mind, this shoulder will require the same structural section
as the travel way.
The cost comparison would involve topographic conditions and right of way
availability. We urge you to have your engineer work closely with Caltrans during the
design of this encroachment.
Should you have any questions please call Paul Cavanaugh of my staff at (209)
948-3954.
VSincere ,
CA.
Chief, Traffic Operations
cc: R. Iwasaki ,
J. Gagliano
P.Cavanaugh
