Riga Foods SITE CODE:22073
1400 Waterloo Road
Stockton, CA 95205
San Joaquin County Public Health Services, Environmental Health Division (PHSM.HD) has completed
review of the 'Soil and Groundwater Investigation Report-dated November 10, 1942 and prepared by
Remediation Services/BSK PHS/EHD has the following comments for your consideration.
The investigation of contamination associated with former petroleum hydrocarbon underground storage
tanks consisted of the drilling and sampling of two soil borings, one of which was converted into a
monitoring well, MW4. Soil contamination was detected to the depth of 70 feet and groundwater
contamination was detected in the sample collected from MW4. Monitoring Wells,MWi - MW3
wntinuW to be reported dry.
PHS/EHD concurs with the recommendation that additional soil assessment be performed, in order to
father delineate the extent of soil contamination. Four soil borings were proposed to be located
surrounding the area of the former tanks. Please submit by February 1S, 199%an addendum to the work
plan submitted by BSK which was dated September 16, 1992,describing the continued investigation, along
with a permit application and associated fees.
PHS/EHD does not concur with the recommendation to monitor MW4 for four quarters prior to the
installation of additional monitoring wells. Since excmtion of soil contamination to 30 feet was
proposed, pending the results of the additional soil investigation, two quarters of groundwater monitoring
should provide adequate time for evaluation. Please schedule the next quarterly sampling event by
Janes 22, 1993.
If you have any questions or to schedule a sampling inspection, please contact Mary Ways.RENS,of my
staff at (204)468-0337.
Jogi Khanna, M.D.,M.P.H.
Health Offi
J.
A.
