The histogram showed a log-normal distribution f
wi11 11 th an extreme right skew. W.
i
- Step 2 - Representative Concentration:
The objective of this step was to calculate a representative concentration for each
I
I of the concentration ranges established in Step 1. Due to the log-normal
distribution of the data, a log transformation wasrformed for each concentration
ncentratron '
step. This resulted in the calculation of "log C." The middle value between each
log transformation was then calculated. This was termed "Mid - log C." The
I antilog of the Mid - log C was then calculated to determine the "mid - C": the
mean concentration within the concentration range in mg/kg.g/kg. Table 8 summarizes
the calculations that were made
Ip
Step 3 - Volume Calculation:
Using a geostatistical software package GSLIB, kriging was performed on the 70
data points (Section 2.2), assuming a log normal distribution of the data, and the
volume of soil within each concentration range was estimated. Table 9 provides a
summary of the volumes calculated. 0 #
Step 4 - Residual Mass Calculation.
Following calculation of the representative concentration and the corresponding
volume for each concentration range, the residual mass of TPH as diesel in the soil
was calculated. The residual mass of TPH as diesel in the soil was calculated to
be 1203 lbs, corresponding to 160 gallons. This residual mass was calculated to
be distributed over a 17,030 fe volume at the site. The residual mass at the site w
corresponds to a unit concentration of 0.07 Ibs/ft3, or 0.009 gallons/W.
Y l
o
h-
h
Is I
MZ/06-13-97/VDBF/17-0009.BK
i J
