N,CjBIL TERMINAL -2- 14 JULY 1987
The fate of the product, and contaminated water in the
excavation should be explained in the report. If it was
simply covered up with the neva tank and backfill , then state
this in the report. Mr. Kaprealian said he was not at the
site when the new tank was installed and the excavation was
covered. A detailed report on the water quality existing in
the excavation at this later date may not be available.
3 . The site plan is inadequate.
-Plan should be to scale.
-Identify Location of all underground tanks at the site.
-Place all tanks on the property on the site plan.
-Show location of underground and abcve ground piping at the
site.
-Identify contents of all tanks,
-Report tank capacities.
-A scale drawing of the site would be a very helpful base
map. Proposed locations of monitoring wells are difficult
to determine on the present site plan.
-Location of the San Joaquin River relative to the site
needs to be shown.
-Identify surface and subsurrace drainage systems, natural
and man-made.
-Other details as required by enclosed memo.
4 . Geological logging of excavations should be included in the
report. Information available in the exposed wall of an
excavation is far superior to that available in borings, and
is vita]_ to site characterization.
5. Change Mr. Doug Williams to Mr. Doug Wilson, pages 1 and 3 .
COMMENTS CONCERNING WORKPLAN
6. Proposed scope of work is inadequate.
-Propose methods to define complete extent of soil
contamination at tank "A" , and ground water contamination at
tank "B" . A monitoring well or wells needs to be placed to
determine if ground water has been contaminated near this
tank.
7 . Explain how monitoring wells will be designed.
Well information for each well:
-Diagram of well constr_uction..
-Depth of well , and length of screened interval.
-Well construction and development methods.
-Well construction materials.
-Elevation reference point at each monitoring well with an
accuracy of . 01 feet.
-Ground surface elevation at each monitoring well with an
accuracy of 0. 1 feet.
