FRIEDMAN & BRUYA, INC.
ENVIRONMENTAL CHEMISTS
Date of Report: January 28, 1991
Date Submitted: January 24, 1991
Project: 1781
RESULTS OF ANALYSES OF THE SOIL AND WATER SAMPLES
FOR FINGERPRINT CHARACTERIZATION
BY CAPILLARY GAS CHROMATOGRAPHY
Sample # GC Characterization
B1-2 The gas chromatographic trace was
indicative of a medium boiling petroleum
product, such as a weathered diesel fuel..
This characterization is based on the
presence of a relatively smooth envelope
of peaks present from ca n-C10 to n-C24
with a maximum at n-C15 . The absence of a
dominance of the n-alkane peaks indicates
that this material has undergone extensive
weathering. There is some indication of
an accelerant in this sample, possibly a
low level of gasoline.
BG-3 The gas chromatographic trace was
indicative of a medium boiling petroleum
product, such as a diesel fuel. This
characterization is based on the presence
of a relatively smooth envelope of peaks
present from ca .n-C10 to n-C24 with a
maximum at n-C15: The dominance of the n-
alkane peaks indicates that this material
has undergone very little weathering.
There appears to be low levels of an
accelerant in this sample, at levels much
lower that was seen in sample B1-2 .
B7-W The gas chromatographic trace was
indicative of a mixture of a low and
medium boiling petroleum product, such as
a mixture of gasoline and diesel fuel.
This characterization is based on the
presence of two relatively smooth envelope
of peaks . The first is present from ca n-
05 to n-C10 (8 minutes) with a maximum at
n-05 and the second from ca n-C10 to n-
CiQ . The presence of dominance of the n-
a kanes suggests that this material has
not undergone significant weathering.
