water, no odor or sheen was noted Two preserved VOA' s were
filled & tightly sealed; they were labeled & placed on ice in the
container holding the preserved soil tubes Refer to PLATE X for
a complete description of blow counts, core recovery, lithology,
& other pertinent information The hole was covered pending
grouting
The rig was then moved to the spot marked for soil boring #2 ,
(see PLATE VI, ) and drilling began at 1410 hours using clean
augers Cores were taken from 5 ' -61611 , 10 ' -11 ' 6" , and 151 -16 ' 0"
using the same field procedures described earlier After
retrieving the last core, a clean teflon bailer was run to 16 '
When it was retrieved, it contained 30" of muddy water Two
preserved VOA' s were filled, tightly sealed and labeled & placed
in the ice chest Upon standing for several minutes, the water
in the VOA became quite clear The hole was covered pending
grouting Refer to PLATE XI for a complete description of blow
counts, core recovery, lithology, an other pertinent details
The rig was then moved to the location marked for soil boring ##1,
as shown on PLATE VI Drilling commenced at 1505 hours using
clean auger flights Cores were taken from 5 ' -616" , 101 -11 ' 6" , &
151 -16 ' 61T using standard WJH field protocol After the last core
was retrieved, a clean teflon bailer was run in the hole &
allowed to set for 5-10 minutes When it was recovered, it
contained about 30" of muddy water which had a petroleum odor
Two VOA' s were filled, sealed, labeled, and placed on ice Refer
to PLATE XII for details of blow counts, core recovery,
lithology, and other data
While completing the last soil boring, a cement/bentonite slurry
was mixed in a mechanical blender Each soil boring was filled
from the bottom to the surface by use of a tremae pipe & flexible
hose The annular space between the 2" casing and hole in each
monitoring well was also thoroughly grouted Preformed vaults
were then installed on each well, with the casing extending far
enough into the vault to allow the installation of a locking cap
The casings were notched on the north side to facilitate future
measurements The vaults were thoroughly cemented in place with
a sand/cement mixture, and traffic covers installed The
grouting operations were witnessed by Linda Turkatte of the San
Joaquin County EHD
The drums containing drill cuttings were clearly labeled and
stored on site pending results of the laboratory analyses
The preserved soil & water samples were transported under chain
of custody by Wm Hunter to FGL Environmental laboratory in
8
I
