i
i
After cleaning drilling tools, a core was taken from 22' to 24'. It consisted of tan to
brown clay, sticky & slightly damp. No free water was present, and there were no
odors or discoloration in any of the core. The abrupt change from the previous
core indicates the presence of an aquiclude somewhere between 18 feet and 22
feet.
'A hydropunch tool was run in the hole, but stopped at 16 feet due to apparent
bridging. After opening the hydropunch tool, there was rapid water entry. Small
diameter tubing was run into the pipe and 4 VOA's were filled with slightly muddy
water. There were no odor or sheen noted in any of the VOA's. The water
samples were labeled and preserved for shipment to the laboratory. Refer to
PLATE V for more details of the lithology and other pertinent data. Copies of the
laboratory sheets and custody chains are included as EXHIBIT B.
The soil &water samples were transferred under chain of custody to the courier
from Sherwood labs, Inc. with instructions to analyze for BTEX, TPHg, & MTBE.
i
The three probe holes were thoroughly grouted with cement & the probe unit
released.
• DISCUSSION OF RESULTS OF LATEST WORK:
TABLE VII summarizes the laboratory results of the soil samples taken from the
three probe holes. All samples from GP-1 & GP-2 were below detection limits.
GP-3 revealed BTEX & TPHg in soil samples at 11 feet & 17 feet; the one taken
at 23 feet was ND. This supports the evidence that an aquitard exists between
18' and 22' below grade. Based upon this data, it appears that the soil plume
extends beneath and beyond the southeast corner of the building as shown on
PLATE II.
TABLE VIII summarizes the laboratory results of the water samples collected
during the work. The samples from GP-1 were below detection limits, but both
GP-2 & GP-3 recorded minor amounts of BTEX. GP-2 also measured TPHg at
437 ug/L, and GP-3 indicated 37 ug/L of MTBE (not confirmed.) However, some
voa's from GP-2 & 3 contained air bubbles when examined in the laboratory.
The lab notes did not indicate whether all voa's contained bubbles, or only certain
ones. Since the water samples did reveal meaurable levels of BTEX & TPHg, the
air bubbles do not condemn the results, only the concentrations.
i
SUMMARY:
iSince the start of this project, the following events have taken place:
5
