Denis Brown and Michael Dominquez:
The San Joaquin County Environmental Health Department (EHD) has reviewed Monitored
Natural Attenuation Work Plan (work plan), dated 04 September 2012, prepared and submitted
by your consulting firm, Conestoga-Rovers & Associates (CRA), on your behalf. By letter dated
01 June 2012, the EHD had directed the submittal of a work plan to collect monitored natural
attenuation (MNA) parameters and had also conducted a thirty-day public participation period
notifying those interested of the pending implementation of MNA as the remedial method to
remove contaminants of concern that resulted from an unauthorized release from former
underground storage tanks (USTs) at this site. The EHD received no comments from the public
during this period between 31 May 2012 and 30 June 2012.
In the work plan, CRA proposed collecting groundwater samples from monitoring wells S-1
through S-6 during the fourth quarter 2012 sampling event and analyzing the samples for
dissolved oxygen (DO), oxidation-reduction potential (ORP), alkalinity, nitrate, sulfate, methane,
manganese, ferrous iron and carbon dioxide. In additional to these, CRA proposed analyzing
the groundwater samples for routinely analyzed contaminants of concern [total petroleum
hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-g); benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes (BTEX);
methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE), tertiary butyl alcohol (TBA), di-isopropyl ether (DIPE), 1,2-
dichloroethane (1,2-DCA) and 1,2-dibromoethane (EDB)].
The EHD approves the work plan as submitted. Please notify the EHD at least a week prior to
the scheduled sampling event so that an inspector can be present and submit the report of
findings within sixty days of collecting the groundwater samples.
If you have any questions, please contact Vicki McCartney at (209) 468-9852 or by email at
vmccartney@sicehd.com.
