Results of the sample analyses are consistent with prior
quarter's results. The report recommends preparation of a work plan for the installation of soil vapor
extraction (SVE)wells for conducting a SVE pilot test.
Review of previous investigation data from this site indicates that soil contamination exists to
approximately 50-feet below surface grade (bsg) in the area of the former tank pit, and that it has not
been laterally defined at this depth to the southwest or the north. Review of the groundwater
analytical data indicates that the contaminant plume has not been vertically defined in the source area
or laterally defined towards the southwest or the north. Over the last five quarterly monitoring and
sampling events, the direction of groundwater flow has been generally towards the southwest with a
northwest component.
PHS/EHD agrees with the recommendation to conduct a SVE pilot test. Information obtained from this
test will be useful in preparation of a feasibility study, which evaluates different cleanup alternatives for
their cost-effectiveness as well as their potential to remedy or mitigate the adverse effects of the
petroleum contamination. In addition to the test, the investigation of the lateral and vertical extent of
the contamination must be completed.
Submit to PHSIEHD a work plan to install vapor extraction wells, conduct a pilot SVE test and to
complete the definition of the vertical and lateral extent of the contaminant plume. Submit the work
plan by July 2, 2001. if you have any questions or comments call Lori Duncan at (209)468-0337.
Donna Heran, REHS, Director
Environmental Health Division
Lori Duncan, Senior REHS Dot Lofstrom, R.G.
LOP/Site Mitigation Unit IV Engineering Geologist
cc: Marty Hartzell, CVRWQCB
Jeanne Homsey, ATC Associates Inc.
A Division of San Joaquin County Health Care Services
