(L&P)has prepared this letter to summarize the additional indoor air and soil vapor
sampling activities conducted at the subject site pursuant to the January 26, 2012 from the San Joaquin
County Environmental Health Department(EHD). Figure 1 presents the site location.
Additional Indoor Air Sampling
John Lane, a registered Professional Geologist, of L&P collected air samples inside the warehouse
building that housed the former clarifier on February 8,2012. Prior to collecting the indoor air samples,
L&P conducted a site visit to inform site workers of the scheduled sampling. The warehouse was fairly
empty during the site visit and the workers were directed to open the warehouse bay door during working
hours in the days leading up to the scheduled sampling and to refrain from storing any chemicals in the
warehouse until sampling was completed.
The air samples were collected on February 8,2012 and analyzed by the laboratory on February 15,2012.
The indoor air samples were collected into 6-liter Summa Canisters using a flow controller set by the
laboratory to collect time-weighted samples over an 8-hour period. One indoor air sample (759-IAI)was
collected immediately over the excavated area and adjacent to the replaced floor drain, and one indoor air
sample(759-IA2)was collected at the rear of the warehouse. The samples were collected roughly at the same
location as indoor air samples collected previously at the site(October 12,2011).
The air samples were transported to ALS Laboratory Group for the constituents of concern using the EPA
TO-15 SIM analytical method, as was done with the indoor air samples collected previously. Laboratory
results indicate that TPHg,benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylenes were detected in both of the indoor air
samples. In addition, naphthalene was detected in the indoor air sample collected above the excavation/fill
