3.0 WORK PLAN OBJECTIVES
The work plan objective consists of the following:
' 1. Remove concrete flooring, the inactive clarifier, and associated piping and excavate, to
' the extent possible, contaminated soil beneath the inactive clarifier.
2. Temporarily store excavated material on site, west of the existing building pending
' characterization of the stockpiled soil.
3. Collect confirmation soil samples from the floor of the excavation to evaluate the nature
' of residual contamination remaining after excavation activities.
4. Mitigate physical hazards of an open excavation by backfilling the excavation with
imported pea gravel and/or engineered fill, as appropriate, repairing any subsurface sewer
' laterals related to removing the clarifier, and restoring the ground surface with new
concrete flooring .
' 5. Characterize the stockpiled material through laboratory analyses to evaluate remediation
and/or disposal options.
' 4.0 SCOPE OF WORK
All sampling and field work on this project will be conducted under the direction of John
' Lane, a Professional Geologist registered by the State of California. Lee & Pierce will define the
area to be excavated and notify of Underground Service Alert prior to the start of field work.
Del-Tech Geotechnical Support (Del-Tech), a State-licensed hazardous waste contractor
' (Contractor License #657366 A/HAZ), will conduct excavation and backfill activities in
compliance with applicable laws and accepted field practices. Del-Tech, under the direction of
' Lee & Pierce, will remove as much impacted soil as is practical, given the constraints dictated by
site conditions, as the area to be excavated lies within an existing storage warehouse. We
' anticipate the maximum depth of practical excavation will be approximately 18-20 feet. We
have estimated that approximately 200 cubic yards of soil will be excavated. Del-Tech will
utilize an excavator, if possible, or a back-hoe, if space dictates, to conduct the excavation, and a
' SOIL REMOVAL WORKPLAN[041131111 3 LEE&PIERCE INC. [JOB#107591
