L NEALTh
GROUNDWATER S` f'VICE
ELO] TECHNOLOGY, INC. 0, '
1401 Halyard Drive,Suite 140,West Sacramen o,CA 95691,(916)372-4700
FAX(916)372-878I
February 28, 1995
Ms. Mary Meays
San Joaquin County Public Health Services
Environmental Health Division
445 San Joaquin Street
P. O. Box 388
Stockton, California 95201-0388
Subject: Request for Site Closure
Chevron Service Station No. 9-7780
3246 East Fremont Street
Stockton, California
GTI Project 02070 0072
Dear Ms. Meays:
Groundwater Technology, Inc. submits this letter as an addendum to the Request for Site Closure letter
dated January 3, 1995 for the former Chevron service station #9-7780 located at 3246 East Fremont Street
in Stockton, California. Questions regarding the hydrocarbon-mass remaining calculation (Attachment 3)
were brought up after regulatory review of the report in late January 1995. Groundwater Technology has
reviewed the previous calculation and has found a discrepancy between the impacted area as depicted on
Figure 4 and the area used in the calculation in Attachment 3. The hydrocarbon-impacted area (15-30 feet
BGS) in Figure 4 was re-calculated using digital planimetry and is estimated at 955 square feet not the 500
square feet originally reported and used in the calculation. The area encompassed by the 30-40 feet BGS
contour on Figure 4 was calculated to be approximately 380 square feet. Groundwater Technology has also
revised the bulk density factor for soil used in the calculation to 1.35 grams per cubic centimeter as
published in various texts. Any mention of the hydrocarbon mass in the previous report should be amended
to read 262 pounds of hydrocarbons, 39-gallon gasoline equivalent. It should be mentioned that the
calculation of remaining hydrocarbon mass Includes multiple sources of compounding errors. Therefore,
the most accurate method of presenting the data would be to report the data as a range of values. The
remaining mass of hydrocarbons should be reported conservatively between 200 and 300 pounds of
hydrocarbons remaining in place.
0072add.1tr
Offices throughout the U.S.,Canada and Overseas
