'E
r ,
1 . 2 SITE SETTING
Former Chevron Service Station 9-7780 is located at 3246 East
Fremont Street., Stockton, California (Figure 1) . The station has
been razed, and the pump islands, product lines, and underground
storage tanks (UST) have been removed. Soils removed frr-n the
r
tank field were piled onto the surface and, as of 8 September
1987, had not been replaced.
The site is located on the southern corner of Windsor Avenue and
"ast Fremont Street (Figure 2) . Land use in the area is a
mixture of residential and commercial types; properties within
the immediate area of the site are used for residences or
businesses, or are undeveloped. The Fremont Avenue exit from
California Highway 99 is approximately one block northeast of the
site. The nearest school is approximately 2,-000- feet west of the
site. The nearest surface water flows in a drainage ditch which
runs from Highway 99 along the southeastern edge of Fremont
Street as far as Windsor Avenue. It does not cross the Chevron
site. The Stockton Diverting Canal runs north and east of the
site, and its nearest approach to the site is approximately 4,000
feet to the northeast.
There is no known UST containing petroleum fuel in the immediate
vicinity of the site. The nearest UST is north of the site: on
Broadway Avenue and is believed to contain solvents.
Most of the locations of underground facilities within the area
of the Stockton site have not been determined. There are two
stormwater drains on Windsor Avenue across the street from the
site (Figure 2) . It can be assumed that poser and sewer lines
traverse the site and run close to the site to service nearby
buildings.
Topography in the site vicinity is essentially flat, sloping very
gently down to the west with a slope of about 0.1 percent .
