PG & E voluntarily investigated for contamination
resulting from the operations of the construction yard's two ASTs. Previous
investigations identified impacted soil at the site. Contaminated soil has been
excavated and an investigation of the ground water beneath the site (at
approximately 30 feet below grade) has been initiated.
Three monitoring wells (MW-1 through MW-3) were installed under EHD well
permit and inspection on May 1, 2007. Low levels of Total Petroleum
Hydrocarbons as diesel (TPH-d) were detected in soil samples from MW-2 and
MW-3 at 10 and 25 feet below ground surface. TPH-d was detected in the
ground water samples from MW-1 at 850 ug/I and TPH as gasoline was also
detected in the water from MW-1 at 580 ug/I. EPA Method 8260B constituents
were not detected in the ground water samples from the wells. The domestic
well on site was also sampled and no petroleum constituents were detected.
The EHD issued well permits and conducted inspections of the wells. The EHD
informed your consultant that the EHD has no regulatory authority to comment or
direct investigations at AST sites and that if ground water contamination was
detected, the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board (CVRWQCB)
would be notified so they could provide oversight.
