Stericycle' <br /> i ErMFOnm2ntal Solutions <br /> LAB PACK PROTOCOL <br /> 1.Acceptance Criteria <br /> Stericycle customers packing their own lab pack waste must follow the packing guidelines established <br /> in this protocol to ensure compliance with permits and safety protocols. <br /> 1.All inventories must be submitted and approved prior to scheduling a shipment to a Stericycle facility(TSL <br /> Your Client Services Manager can assist in getting your lab pack inventories to the correct <br /> approval manager. <br /> 2.Any changes required to be made to the inventory must be corrected,re-submitted,and approved <br /> prior to scheduling a shipment. <br /> 3.The following items are prohibited from acceptance at Stericycle Facilities: <br /> a. Class 1 Explosives <br /> b. Class 6.2 Infectious Material <br /> c. Class 7 Radioactive Material <br /> d.Temperature-controlled chemicals (self-reactive/organic peroxides) <br /> 4. Restricted items (accepted at certain facilities) include Dioxin and Dioxin-bearing waste <br /> and PCB containing wastes. These will only be approved after consideration of permits and trans routes. <br /> 5. Items not listed as prohibited but which are also not identified in the packing guidelines as acceptable <br /> may be submitted for consideration by lab pack approval managers. <br /> 2.SEGREGATION RULES <br /> 1. Segregate the materials by initial hazard class than further by secondary hazard class.Chemicals <br /> with different secondary hazards may be lab packed provided they are compatible (secondary <br /> acids should not be packed with secondary bases). <br /> 2. If an item has a tertiary hazard class,this will most likely require separate packaging. <br /> 3.All items in one lab pack must be compatible. <br /> 4. Items that are lab packed must be authorized under 49 CFR 173.12(b); otherwise,the materials <br /> must be packaged in accordance with the single packaging rules found in <br /> sections 49 CFR 173.201 -.229 for non-bulk packages. <br /> 5.The following hierarchy will apply when assigning descriptions: <br /> a. Liquid over Solid <br /> b. Organic over Inorganic <br /> 6.Unknown chemicals must be characterized using an approved Hazcat protocol. <br /> a. All unknown items must be packed separately from known chemicals. <br /> b. Unknowns to be characterized limited to 1-gallon or 8 lbs. <br /> © Stericycle 2014.All rights reserved.
