In a letter to Richard Keffer of Pet Foods, Inc. , dated
November 28, 1989, the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board
authorized abandonment of these wells.
The wells proposed for abandonment (see plot plan) include the northern
perimeter monitoring wells (MW-4 and MW-5) and the three compliance groundwater
monitoring wells (MW-31, MW-80 and MW-132) . Construction details of these wells
were provided in our reports dated August 11, 1988 and May 25, 1989. The north-
ern perimeter dewatering wells are 2-inch diameter wells completed to 25-foot
depth and were used to monitor groundwater levels and quality during the
dewatering operation. The compliance monitoring wells (former dewatering wells)
are 4-inch diameter wells completed to about 35 foot depth and were used to
verify groundwater quality subsequent to the site remediation.
All other monitoring wells and dewatering wells constructed for the former
Tillie Lewis site assessment/remediation have been previously abandoned under /
permit with the San Joaquin Local Health District. These wells were abandoned by
grouting from bottom to top with vo+elay-gwL b. The same method of abandonment i
is proposed for the remaining five site wells.
