g? JUL 29 AM 9: 36
McClelland engineers
2'.40 Eastn in Avenue. '✓entu .a Ca19 a1,1 ,
(805:fj44-Si3A Tplea 6i97'.
July 29, 1988
Job No. 0588-1603
California Regional Water
Quality Control Board
Central Valley Region
3443 Routier Road
Sacramento, CA 95827-3098
Attention: Mr. Gordon Lee Boggs
Environmental Affairs
Dewatering Wells
Former Tillie Lewis Foods Canne
Stockton, Californi
As part of the overall remedial activit' s proposed at the former Tillie
Lewis Foods Cannery, McClelland Engineer proposes to construct a series of
dewatering wells and piezometers in th icinity of the tank area. The inner
perimeter dewatering wells (see Pla 1) will be pumped initially to remove
as much free product, as possible, prior to pumping of the outer perimeter iU
wells. The outer perimeter dewatering wells will be pumped during the exca-
vation to facilitate earthwork activities. Discharge water will be treated t
onsite with an oil-water separator and conveyed to the local sanitary sewer 7
pursuant to the City of Stockton, Municipal Utilities Department regulations. / C.
he piezometers will be used to monitor water levels during the dewatering . '
tivities. Details of the Remediation Plan were provided by Ogden
Environmental Services in a report dated May 1988.
McClelland proposes to install approximately 182 dewatering wells (at
CSU 6-foot spacing intervals) , and approximately 10 piezometers (see Plate 1 for j
locations) . Our services will include the following:
J1. Drill well holes for dewatering wells to a depth of about 30 feet
for inner perimeter wells and 30 to 50 feet for outer perimeter
wells] install 4-inch-diameter PVC wells; develop wells to maximize
yield; install jet educator pumps and plumbing connections to the
water treatment unit.
2. Drill well holes for piezometers to depths ranging from about 12
feet to 50 feet below ground surface; install 2-inch-diameter PVC
wells and develop accordingly.
3. Containerize soil cuttings from the inner perimeter wells onsite.
(These cuttings will subsequently be thermally treated with the
Circulating Bed Combustor (CBC) . The outer perimeter wells are
beyond the zone of contamination as defined in the assessment
report dated May 20, 1988. In the unlikely event that contami-
nation is observed in these borings, soil cuttings will be contain-
erized for subsequent treatment.)
