1
Mr. Richard Keffer -2- 13 August 1987
The following comments concerning the report should be addressed:
1. Concerning the contouring of fuel oil contamination levels: In Plate 3 the
zero contour is distorted so it does not encompass Boring 5 . The PID
reading in Boring 5 at 10 feet was positive, and no soil analysis was run.
No TPH soil analysis was run for Boring 9 at 10 feet, yet it appears as
though the location was assigned a value of zero for Plate 8 contouring.
The same problem is evident with Plate 9 for Boring 4. The limited data
used to define contours in Plate 10 probably creates a very misleading
representation of conditions. The practice of defining locations with no
TPH data as having no contamination detracts from the validity of these
plots. As these plots are going to misrepresent site conditions, they must
be corrected or eliminated from the report.
11.2Exp?ain why PID readings which are calibrated to z benzene standard show
benzene is present, while no benzene shoats up in water samples at the
site.
3. Submit a site plan which identifies the location of supply wells existing
on the site.
We requestyou submit results of the analysis and water level data, a proposal
for further work based on the data, and respond to the comments on your
technical report by 11 September 1987.
