 v
o
A S S O C I A T E S I N C
In the judgment of ATC, additional groundwater monitoring appears appropriate to confirm
current dissolved hydrocarbon concentrations in groundwater Based on the chemical results of
' the additional monitoring, investigative work further defining groundwater impaction may be
warranted This additional work may include the installation of additional monitoring wells to
evaluate groundwater chemical characteristics and hydrology
iDiscovered on-site monitoring wells MW-308 and MW-220 are located approximately 100 feet
south of the site's former UST location Also, according to Mr Butch Schmidt of SUSD,
additional monitoring wells are present at the site These wells are a potential conduit for
dissolved petroleum hydrocarbons detected in groundwater at the site and therefore they should
be addressed appropriately State and local water well standards ordinances state
When a well no longer serves a useful purpose, or has fallen into a state of disrepair that
' it
may become a source of impairment to the groundwater quality, or constitutes a safety
hazard, it must be destroyed(San Joaquin Ordinance No 1862)
If the owner declares his intention to use the well again, he shall maintain it in such a way
that 1) the well has no defects that will impair the quality of water in the well or other
water bearing formations, 2) the well is capped with a water tight seal or cover, 3) the
well is marked so that it is easily seen, and, 4) the area around the well is kept clear of
brush and debris (San Joaquin Ordinance No 1862)
All on-site monitoring wells should be located and identified The owner(s) of these wells should
be subsequently identified and inquired as to what the intentions are for the immediate future use of
the wells PHS/EHD should be notified of the decision
' It may be appropriate for SUSD to incorporate these wells into the on-site investigation,
however, well construction details and current conditions of the wells require further evaluation
Additionally, well ownership and potential liability issues require study to determine whether
' using these wells is desirable and/or feasible for the UST investigation
i
1
1
w U 72921reponslsumwe1 doe 6
1
