16 December 1999
AGE-NC Project No. 95-0184
Page 4 of 6 TV
various pumping rates. Data collected during the test will be used to evaluate groundwater
remediation methods that may be applied at the site.
4.0. PROCEDURES
All field activities will be overseen by an AGE representative under the supervision of a California
Registered Geologist. Procedures for the soil sampling, well installation, equipment
decontamination, performance of the pilot test and sample shipment are outlined below.
4.1. SOIL BORING ADVANCEMENT AND SAMPLING
Soil borings will be advanced using hollow-stem auger drilling techniques. Soil samples will be
collected in each boring using a California modified split-spoon sampler fitted with 2-inch diameter,
6-inch long brass sleeves. Upon removal from the sampler, the exposed ends of the second sleeve
will be covered with Teflon sheets, capped and sealed with tape. Soils encountered in the borings
will be visually classified by an AGE geologist in accordance with the Unified soil Classification
System (USCS). Additionally, soil sample duplicates will be field screened for the presence of
organic vapor using an organic vapor meter(OVM).
Following sample collection, each preserved sample sleeve will be labeled with the boring location,
depth, time and date. Appropriately sealed and labeled samples will be placed in a chilled container
with ice and transported under chain-of-custody procedure to a DHS-certified laboratory for analysis.
Selected samples will be analyzed for TPH-g, TPH-d, BTEX and MTBE in accordance with
appropriate EPA methods. Several samples may also be analyzed from fuel oxygenates. Selection
of samples for analyses will include input from the PHS-EHD.
4.2. MONITORING WELL INSTALLATION
The monitoring well borings will be completed using hollow-stem auger drilling techniques.
Following completion of drilling activities, a two-inch diameter Schedule 40 PVC, slotted well
screen(0.020-inch) and well casing will be installed.
The casing, filter pack and sealing materials will be placed into the borehole through the interior of
the hollow-stem augers. After installing the well casing, filter pack material consisting of pre-washed
#3 Lonestar sand will be added from the bottom of the borehole to approximately two feet above the
screened interval. Following placement of the filter pack, the well will be surged to assist in settling
the filter pack. Additional sand will be added if settling occurs.
Advanced Geo Environmental,Inc.
