12 December 1995
AGE-NC Project No. 95-0184
Five soil borings (B1 through 135) were driCed at the site by Geological Audit Services, Inc. from
February 11 to 14, 1994. Borings B 1 through B4 were completed as groundwater monitoring wells
MW-1 through MW-4, respectively. Free product was encountered in MW-4 and removed. TPH as
gasoline and BTE&X were detected in each well; TPH as diesel was detected in MW-4.
3.0. SCOPE OF WORK
Additional investigation is required to determine the lateral and vertical extent and hydrocarbon
impacted soil and ground water at the site. Feasibility testing should also be performed to determine
remedial options for the site.
AGE proposes to drill ten soil borings at and near 308 North Grant Street. Borings will be drilled
using a truck-mounted, drill rig equipped with hollow-stem augers. Five borings will be completed
as vadose-zone wells(vapor extraction wells). Two borings will be completed as combination ground
water monitoring/vadose-zone wells. Four borings will be completed as ground water monitoring
wells.
3.1. DRILLING AND SAMPLING
Impacted soil is present in the vicinity of tank A. Impacted soil was also encountered during the
drilling of MW-2 beginning at a depth of 35 feet. VW-1 will be installed adjacent to tank A and VW-2
will be installed near MW-2 for use as a vadose-zone remediation wells. VW-3 will be installed east
of tank A and drilled at a 30° angle towards the north. VW-4 will be installed south ofMW-1 and
drilled at a 30° angle to the east. Both VW-3 and VW-4 will be drilled to determine the lateral extent
of impacted soil and used for vadose-zone remediation. VW-5/MW-5 will be installed in the sidewalk
northwest of tank A to investigate the extent of both impacted soil and ground water.
Impacted soil was encountered in the entire depth ofMW-4 during drilling. VW-7 will be installed
at the location of tank B for vadose remediation. VW-6/MW-6 will be installed north of tank B for
both soil and ground water investigation.
The lateral extent of impacted ground water has not been defined. MW-7 will be installed south of
tank A(cross gradient) and west of tank B (up gradient). MW-8 will be installed down gradient of
tank A, inside the building at 825 Miner. MW-9 will be installed down gradient of tank B, in the
sidewalk at the east end o£825 Miner. MW-10 will be installed across Miner Avenue down gradient
oftank B.
