Site Background Information: Larry's Auto
Page 3 of 8
benzene, 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene, and 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene concentrations exceeded their
respective action levels, and n-propyl benzene exceeded its action level.
On 13, 14, and 16 through 18 December 2004 and 13 January 2005, six soil borings (CPT-1 and
CPT-5 through CPT-9) were advanced on- and off-site utilizing CPT technology. At each boring
location, lithologic data was collected from an initial CPT sounding; immediately adjacent to the
sounding,twin borings were advanced to collect soil and grab ground water samples from selected
depths. Although the proposed total depth of each boring was to be 225 feet bsg, all borings
encountered refusal before reaching the targeted depth.
• Soil boring CPT-1 was advanced to a total depth of 198 feet at the north end of the Larry's
Auto parking lot, approximately 8 feet east of UST#1;
• Soil boring CPT-5 was advanced to a total depth of 115 feet on the west side of the Aurora
Street right-of-way, approximately 95 feet north of the corner of Aurora Street and Miner
Avenue;
• Soil boring CPT-6 was advanced to a total depth of 192 feet on the north side of the Miner
Avenue right-of-way,approximately 38 feet west of the comer of Aurora Street and Miner
Avenue;
• Soil boring CPT-7 was advanced to a total depth of 192 feet at the south end of the Larry's
Auto parking lot, approximately 14 feet west of monitoring well MW-7;
• Soil boring CPT-8 was advanced to a total depth of 191 feet on the west side of the Grant
Street right-of-way, approximately 40 feet west of monitoring well MW-3; and
• Soil boring CPT-9 was advanced to a total depth of 192 feet near the south side of Lindsay
Avenue, approximately 37 feet east of the corner of Lindsay Avenue and Grant Street.
Ground water and soil samples were collected from specified depth intervals(zones)based on CPT
lithologic data acquired from the initial CPT sounding indicating favorable conditions for sampling.
Ground water samples were collected by pushing the HydroPunch sampling assembly to specified
zones. Ground water samples were collected from the CPT boring locations at the following
intervals:
• CPT-1 was sampled between 62 feet and 66 feet below surface grade(bsg),between 113 feet
and 117 feet bsg,between 131 feet and 135 feet bsg,between 158 feet and 162 feet bsg,and
between 187 feet and 191 feet bsg;
• CPT-5 was sampled between 63 feet and 67 feet bsg,and between 104 feet and 108 feet bsg;
• CPT-6 was sampled between 63 feet and 67 feet bsg, between 113 feet and 117 feet bsg,
between 159 feet and 163 feet bsg,between 176 feet and 180 feet bsg,and between 187 feet
and 191 feet bsg;
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc
