' 11 December 2001
• AGE-NC Project No 95-0184
' 2 2 COLLECTION AND LABORATORY ANALYSIS OF GROUND WATER SAMPLES
Water samples were collected, from each purged well using new disposable plastic bailers After the
' wells have been sampled, one uncontaminated tap-water sample was pumped through one of the
decontaminated purge pumps and was collected, this sample (an equipment blank) was requested
by the PHS-EHD to assess the adequacy of purge-pump decontamination procedures
' Each water sample was transferred into laboratory-supplied 40-al VOA vials containing 0 5 ml 18/
' hydrochloric acid as a sample preservative, the sample from MW-4 was also transferred into a 1-liter
amber bottle without preservative After collection, the samples were properly labeled, placed in a
chilled container, transported under chain-of-custody to McCambell Analytical Laboratories,Inc ,
' and were analyzed for
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) in accordance with EPA
' Methods 5030 and 8015m,
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as diesel(TPH-d)in accordance with EPA Methods
'• 3550 and 8015m,
® Volatile aromatic hydrocarbons-benzene,toluene, ethylbenzene and total xylenes(BTEX),
and methyl tertiary-butyl ether(MTBE) in accordance with EPA Method 602/8020, and
' • Fucl oxygenates di-isopropyl ether (RIPE), ethyl tertiary-butyl ether (ETBE), MTBE,
tertiary-amyl methyl ether (TAME) and tertiary butanol (TBA) in accordance with EPA
' Method 8260 Modified
Due to an error with the analytical test requests on the chain of custody form, volatile organic
compounds (VOCs) by GC/MS (full-scan 8260) were not analyzed this quarter
I
' 3.0. FINDINGS
Ground water elevation and flow direction were inferred from field data, hydrocarbon-impact to
' ground water was quantified by laboratory analysis of the ground water samples
I3 1 GROUND WATER GRADIENT AND FLOW DIRECTION
The elevation of ground water in each well was calculated by subtracting the depth to ground water
' from the surveyed casing elevations (Table 1) Depths to ground water ranged from 31 00 feet to
• 31 59 feet below the tops of the well casings, however, ground water levels are as high as
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc
1
