t
The following cost comparison was prepared by Regenes's.It summarizes approximate costs for three different
methods to remediate'a dissolved BTEX plume. The plume considered In this comparison was assumed to
have the following characteristics:
► Contamination: BTEX
► Total Dissolved BTEX Concentration: 5 ppm
Plume Width: 100 feet
Groundwater Velocity: 0.5 feet/day
> Thickness of Saturated Zone: 18 feet
► Depth to Groundwater: 12 feet
► Assumed weight ratio of oxygen to hydrocarbon for remediation
Year 1: 6 (to be conservative,it is assumed t lice as much oxygen will be required during the first
year)
Year 2 and later: 3
► Monitodng costs:
Standard monitoring of site is excluded, since cost will be approximately the same for each
treatment, and will vary by site depending on field conditions and regulatory requirements.
> No floating product;vadose zone source of contamination has been removed.
The following table summarizes the costs of each technology considered in this evaluation. The projected
total cost for a 10 year effort would be approximately S1 50K for ORC, $465K for pump-and-treat,and
$254K for an air-sparging barrier. Details of each estimate are provided in subsequent tables.
i
C-2
